Resound Radio Reviews

Last semester I began writing album reviews for our College radio station - Resound Radio. From contemporary, to alternative, to pop-Christian albums, my rating scale has gone from atrociously awful to somewhat bearable. It's so hard to give any album 5 stars when you can give an album like Physical Graffiti, The Dark Side of the Moon, and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band 5 stars. That's why I'm pretty hard on whatever I listen to.

Basically, unless you're redefining sound, making a resonating statement, or blowing the definition of what you're doing out of proportion with anything I've ever heard or seen before, there's no way you're getting above a 4. Now lately I've been easing up and letting the reigns fall lower than usual - but that was based on pressure I was getting to justify my low ratings - which was possible to do, but wouldn't have been worth 5 more pages of analysis and in depth reasonings for my personal standards or what I expect other people's standards to be. That's not to say I'm coping out by any means, but just that my ratings don't always reflect my personal belief - just what I think the review says, and what the general public will probably agree with. Okay yes, that sounds like coping out...

What can I say?

Maybe I'm just being too judgmental in the first place. I add some sugar on top of the harshness of my reviews so they're easy to swallow, but I'm sure that the real meaning in my words can be discovered by the people who know what I'm talking about. In any case, if you're interested, you can check out my reviews.

So far I've done:
All Star United - Love and Radiation
Inhabited - Love
Relient K - The Birds and the Bee Sides

Come to find out...

Magnolias smell pretty bad.

I'll go back to a "typical" favorite flower for a girl: the gerber daisy.

They're a constant good, I think.

Plus my audio production group bought them for me after our presentation for being "such a fabulous director" and it was love at first sight. lol

Twilight (the movie) Review

Recently saw the critically acclaimed film "Twilight" based on the hit series by Stephanie Meyer. After seeing the previews, I was a bit biased to the whole ordeal thinking it was going to be a bit too formulated, and poorly written/acted out. I was also nervous that the perceptions that I had come up with from the book would be diminished by the film, and what I pictured wouldn't be played out correctly.

That said, I went into the movie feeling a bit pessimistic and like I'd be walking out saying, "Yeah I was right...that was lame." Having gone into it with that mind set, I'm pleased to say that I did enjoy the movie. It's not a blockbuster hit by any means or a "top 10", but I think it had a good go at the ideas that Stephanie Meyer presented in the novel.

Don't confuse my words though - it was NOT the quality of the book by any means, but it was enjoyable. So if you can take the aspect you like from the book with a grain of salt going into it, I think you could enjoy it too. It also had some unexpected humor that I definitely appreciated. It gave it a more redeeming quality to it.

:-)

The Story So Far...

I'm down to my last final tomorrow morning and couldn't be happier to say that! I'm getting close to, if not, straight A's. Cedarville was definitely one of the best choices I ever made with my life.

I'm not sure where it's all going to take me, but I can trust that in the hands of a loving God to guide me through. I also couldn't be more blessed with all the friends I've made and my family back home.

((sigh))

It's going to be sad to see people go, but it'll all be give and take from here on out.

I'm auditioning for an Interruption next semester, which is a live performance venue at "The Hive" on campus. That'll be in January. Very exciting, and nerve wracking.

I'm coming home for Christmas break on Saturday, so that won't come soon enough.

Other than that, things are floating in the air and other things are stuck to the ground but it's my job to see how it all comes together. It's already so beautiful though. :-)

Oh Ohio

Cedarville has been the best decision I've ever made about my life. I've only been here two weeks and I feel like I've already learned more about myself than I ever would if I were still at home. I've met a lot of really cool people, and look forward to meeting more.

Getting involved will be a bit tricky to start, because I'm not really sure what I want to get myself into. I went to a few interest meetings, and so far, I think I'm going to be a yearbook photographer, as well as a photographer for Resound Radio, our college radio station. I will also be writing album reviews for the website, which is very exciting to me.

Other than that, I'm really excited to see what God has in store for my life. It's amazing when you think about how prevalent God really is in our lives. Even if you don't believe, or think you can't see it, it's there. I promise. I always think it's nice to know there's someone looking out for you. I think the biggest indication to me is nature. I don't think anything that structured, that beautiful, that diverse, could ever be an accident. But really, it's faith.

This is gonna be a great year. I can feel it :-)

The X-Files Movie

Do NOT waste your money on this flick. It was very very awful. haha To be more specific, bad acting was emphasized by bad lines, were delivered by a bad and poorly developed plot. If you can call that a plot. It was very typically all an intermingled issue which was pathetically obvious from the very beginning.

So if you enjoy bad acting, bad directing, strange camera angles, or you like just sitting back in your seat, wondering when on earth such a short movie will be over, and thinking to yourself all the things you could be doing other than watching the movie, then the X Files movie is definitely the right movie for you!

Enough said.
